Extension, addition of heated space or floors

diese Seite auf Deutsch

For the expansion of a heated or cooled usable floor area, including the addition of a previously unheated attic or additional floor, the EnEV differentiates between measures including a new heat generator and such without a new heat generator.

Measures including a new heat generator – more than 50 m² added contiguous space

The new building part must meet EnEV requirements for new constructions (requirement level 2014):

  • Requirements concerning the yearly primary energy demand
  • Requirements of the structural envelope of the addition (residential building: HT` according to level 2014; non-residential building maximal U-values according to level 2014)
  • special requirement concerning the airtightness of the reference-building
  • Proof of sufficient summer heat protection

Measures without a new heat generator – more than 50 m² added contiguous space

The new building part must meet EnEV requirements for existing buildings:

  • Requirements concerning all relevant building components (U-values)
  • Proof of sufficient summer heat protection

Measures without a new heat generator – up to 50 m² added contiguous space

In case of smaller extensions, addition of previously unheated attics or additional floors (usable area up to 50 m²), the building component requirements for existing buildings must by the new building part.

For measures up to 50 m² including a new heat generator the EnEV contains no requirements for the building shell of the new building part; it can be assumed that in these cases compulsory requirements only apply to the heating-, DHW- and (if existent) the AC-/ventilation systems of the new building part.
